Scooter accident results in fatality

The Farmville Police Department is investigating a two-vehicle crash that killed the operator of a motor scooter. The accident occurred at approximately 9:27 a.m. Monday, July 22, at the intersection of Second Street and North Virginia Street.

According to police, a witness at the scene indicated the operator of the scooter was traveling North on Virginia Street and failed to stop at the stop sign.

The driver operating a 2007 Chevrolet SUV, was traveling West on Second Street and collided with the victim who was operating a 2019 Jiangsu Moped.

The operator of the moped was transported to Centra Southside Community Hospital by Prince Edward Volunteer Rescue Squad with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

The name of the deceased is not being released at this time, pending notification of next of kin.

The Farmville Police, with the assistance of the Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team, is investigating the accident.
