The Buckingham County JROTC department had an accreditation from 4th Brigade of Fort Bragg, North Carolina this year. The final inspection score was 99.5 percent out of 100 percent. The inspection consisted of a color guard presentation, platoon drill presentation, portfolio inspection, cadet interviews and service learning brief — all received perfect scores. The continuous improvement brief was also part of the accreditation process.

The JROTC accreditation is a cadet led inspection with the cadre (senior army instructor and army instructor) present, but not allowed to actively participate in the execution of presentations or briefings. The Buckingham County JROTC program continues to maintain the title of JROTC Honor Unit with Distinction, which allows the program to directly nominate JROTC Cadets to the United States Military Academy at West Point, the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis and the United States Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs.

The two inspectors, Erik Shay and COL Norrell stated they were very impressed and noted that this was the second highest score from over 330 JROTC schools over the last four years.
