Buckingham County area gardeners are welcome to attend the Saturday, Aug. 10 session of the Tips & Topics series to explore methods of helping gardens to survive the hottest days of summer, and help the gardener to thrive as well.

“Right now, it seems the weeds are overtaking everything, the bugs are proliferating, the ground is baking and the gardener is melting,” notes VCE Master Gardener Jackie Fairbarns. “If this describes your situation,” adds VCE Master Gardener Kelly Love-Schwarz, “then this session is for you. During the presentation, methods and techniques for dealing with these problems will be discussed, along with planning for getting a head start on Fall planting. Healthy eating in the winter and early spring gets a boost from planting done in late summer and fall, she notes.”

The Aug. 10 presentation starts at 10 a.m. at the Buckingham County Extension Office in Buckingham (between the County Admin Center and the Arts Center) 54 Administration Lane, Buckingham — across the street from Maysville Baptist Church, in the white AG building. The program lasts about an hour.

This is one of a series of monthly Gardening Tips & Topics sessions sponsored by the Virginia Cooperative Extension Service and presented by the Heart of Virginia Master Gardeners Association. Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer individual questions from 9:30-11:30 a.m. The sessions are open to all, there is no fee and reservations are not required.
