Cumberland County Landfill Alert Committee cordially welcomes all citizens of Cumberland County and surrounding counties to a community meeting concerning the proposed landfill to learn more and receive information about the stand against this issue. The next meeting will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Cumberland Community Center located at 45 south and Davenport Road.

The Cumberland County Board of Supervisors monthly meeting is held every second Tuesday, unless otherwise announced, at 7 p.m. in the Cumberland County Court Room.

The Buckingham County Christian Fellowship Association, a nonprofit organization, is sponsoring a one day bus trip on Thursday Aug. 1 to The Wohlfahrt Haus Dinner Theatre (WHDT) in Wytheville to the show called “A Country Gospel.” WHDT is happy to present its version of “good ole” country gospel. The production will feature favorite songs that we grew up singing from spiritual, happy, hand-clapping numbers to sweet beautiful inspirational hymns played by our own talented musicians. So come and join us in this opportunity to praise the Lord. Pickup will be Food Lion in Dillwyn, Farmers Bank parking lot Appomattox and Walmart parking lot in Lynchburg. Only a few seats remaining. Deadline for registration has been extended to Saturday, July 20.

The 2017 annual former Craddock Terry Shoe Factory breakfast meeting will be held on Saturday, Aug. 10, at 9 a.m. at Teresa’s Place located at 15055 North James Madison Highway, Dillwyn next to Sprouses Corner. All former employees and their guests are welcome to attend and plan to pay for their own meal. Buckingham Baptist Church located at 24234 N. James Madison Highway, New Canton, will be hosting its annual Vacation Bible School Sunday, July 14-19. On Sunday, July 14, there will be pre-registration and an ice cream social from 5-6:30 p.m. for children 4 to 16 years old. Bible school, July 15-19 from 5:45-8:45 p.m. This year’s theme is “In The Wild.” For further information contact Betty Toney at (434) 983-2232. Bible school will be followed by the churches annual homecoming on Sunday, July 21. Services will begin at 10 a.m. with gospel music at its best featuring the “Oak Hill Quartet” of Cumberland. Following this will be morning worship at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Garry Sims followed by lunch at noon. All are welcome.

Jubilee Baptist Church located at 216 Crews Shop Road, Concord, will be having special guest, “True Spirit Bluegrass Gospel Band” out of Richmond, on Sunday, July 14, at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Roger Childress and the entire congregation welcome all to attend.
