The Church and Community Events calendar is published each Friday. Items must be submitted by 10 a.m. Monday for that Friday’s calendar. Events should be emailed to CommunityCalendar@ FarmvilleHerald.com.

JULY 27

BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPLY DAY, 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. at Bright Hope Center, Cumberland Road. Free back to school supply packages for preschool and K-12 will be available. A free lunch will be served from noon to 12:30 p.m. There will be face painting, crafts, door prizes, games and activities. A parent/ guardian must accompany students who must attend Cumberland County Schools (proof of residence). BIBLE STUDY, 9:45 a.m. at Farmville Baptist Church with worship service to follow at 11 a.m.

HOMECOMING, 11 a.m. at High Bridge Baptist Church with a dual sermon by Pastor’s Reginald and Eva Hurt. The Rev. Dr. Irene B. Allen and choir of Mt. Gazerine Baptist Church, Blackstone, will provide the service at 2:30 p.m.

GUEST PREACHER, 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, Burkeville, will be the Rev. Barbara. Homecoming service will be held July 28 at 3 p.m. with Pastor William Thomas guest preacher. Mount Zion 2nd Baptist Church choir and congregation will accompany him. All are welcome.

PASTOR’S ANNIVERSARY, 3 p.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church, 14167 Farmville, Road, Meherrin of Pastor Haney Thomas, Jr. Guest preacher will be the Rev. Walter Fells, Pastor of Mercy Seat Baptist Church, Hampden Sydney along with his choir and congregation.

USHER’S ANNIVERSARY, 4 p.m. at Sulphur Spring Baptist Church. The program will feature the Waller Sisters from Altavista. All are welcome to worship with us.

JULY 28-AUGUST 1

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Fitzgerald Memorial Baptist Church, 14 Fitzgerald Road, Cumberland.

JULY 28-AUGUST 2

HOMECOMING, 11 a.m. at Old Green Creek Green Baptist Church. Dinner will be served immediately after morning service. Revival services will begin Monday, July 29, through Friday, Aug. 2. Prayer and praise will begin each night at 7:30 p.m. with revival at 8 p.m. Pastor Joseph Allen of Spreading Oaks Baptist Church, Arvonia will be the Revivalist. All are welcome.

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL, 11 a.m. service with Pastor Carrington at Tearwallet Baptist Church. Dinner will be served with service to follow at 3 p.m. Revival will begin Monday with different speakers, choirs and ushers each night.

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL, 11 a.m. at Pilgrim Baptist Church, Jetersville with Pastor, the Rev. Marvin Oliver delivering the morning sermon. Lunch will be served. An afternoon service will begin at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Damion T. Batts of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Blackstone accompanied by his church family. Revival will begin on Monday with prayer and praise service at 7:30 p.m. and worship service at 8 p.m. There will be different pastors each night. All are welcome.

BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPLY GIVE AWAY, 5 p.m. at Prince Edward Elks Lodge, Farmville. Free back to school supplies for students K-4 will be available. Hot dogs and other refreshments will be served. Motivational speakers include Superintendent of Prince Edward County Public Schools Dr. Barbara Johnson and Director of Bus Transportation Torey Holmes. FOOD CHALLENGE: SUMMER EDITION, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. for youth ages nine and up to learn cooking skills and participate in a Food Challenge cooking competition on Aug. 2 with other area teams and a Pork Challenge competition in Smithfield on Aug. 24. Space is limited. Contact Jake at (434) 392-4246.

OPEN HOUSE, for Buckingham County Public Schools. Buckingham PreSchool, Primary and Elementary hour will be from 10 a.m.-noon and from 4-6 p.m. Buckingham Middle School will be from 4-6 p.m. with sixth grade orientation from 4-4:30 p.m. Buckingham High School will be from 4-6 p.m. with ninth grade orientation from 1-3 p.m.

COOL DOWN WITH A COP, 1-4 p.m. at Sweetfrog. Come join members of the Farmville Police Department for frozen yogurt, games and learning fun ways to stay safe.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH MEETING, 7 p.m. at Sharon Baptist Church, Green Bay Road and Sandy River Road.

AUGUST 2

OPENING RECEPTION, 6-8 p.m. at Riverside Cafe. The August and September show will feature the art of Dean Lord, Donna McRae- Jones and Brenda McMillan.

IN CONCERT, 7 p.m. at Sandy Creek Baptist Church, 25450 E. Saylers Creek Road, Jetersville. Performing will be Down East Boys. Concert is free and everyone is welcome.

AUGUST 3

BBQ DINNER/BOSTON BUTT SALE FUNDRAISER, hosted by The Randolph District Volunteer Fire Department at 2145 Cumberland Road. Pre-order Boston Butts by calling Tim Baber at (804) 304-2394 or any fireman. Butts must be preordered by July 22. The dinner will consist of barbecue, bun, coleslaw, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, deserts and drinks. Takeouts will also be available after 4 p.m.

AUGUST 4

HOMECOMING, 10:30 a.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, 125 Shiloh Church Road. The Rev. Horace Parham, Pastor will bring forth the word and music by Brother Steve Hurt and Shiloh Praise Ensemble. All are welcome. Dinner will be served.

GOSPEL CONCERT, 11 a.m. at Fitzgerald Memorial Baptist Church featuring Smokey Robinson. All are welcome.

HOMECOMING, 11 a.m. at Petersville Baptist Church, 3330 Petersville Church Road, New Canton, with Pastor Ollie W. Bolden and the church choir. Lunch to follow.

ALLEN FAMILY REUNION, 11 a.m. at College Presbyterian Church, Hampden Sydney with church services and reunion to follow in the fellowship hall.

HOMECOMING, 11 a.m. at Mt Zion Baptist Church of New Canton. The Rev. Don Campbell of Richmond will be preaching the morning worship service. Sunday School begins at 9:45 a.m. Lunch will be served.

AMERICAN KESTREL, 2 p.m. at Sailor’s Creek Battlefield presented by Master Naturalists. Learn about the fascinating bird of prey. Event will be held in the visitor center. Free admission.

AUGUST 4-7

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL 11 a.m. at Woodland United Methodist Church. Pastor George Schaefer will deliver the message for the homecoming service, followed by a meal. Pastor Jeff Whorley will bring forth the message each evening for revival, Monday-Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Special music each night. Woodland United Methodist is located at 2087 Woodland Church Road Buckingham, 4 miles off Route 56.

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL, 11 a.m. at First Liberty Baptist Church. Revival will begin on Monday with praise service at 7:30 p.m. with Revivalist Dr. Rev. Roscoe D. Cooper, III of Rising Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Richmond. Different choirs will render music each night. A fellowship meal will be served following the morning service.

AUGUST 4-9

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL, 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Farmville, with the Rev. James P. Ashton delivering the homecoming message. Revival will begin Wednesday with prayer and worship at 7 p.m. followed by a service at 7:30 p.m. Guest pastors each night.

AUGUST 5

TECHNOLOGY CLASS, 3-4:30 p.m. Computer basics at Cumberland Public Library.

SUPPORT GROUP TO MEET, 5:45 p.m. of the Heart of VA Special Needs Group at Farmville Church of Christ, 1401 Milnwood Road, Farmville. This meeting is held the first Monday of each month.

AUGUST 5-7

REVIVAL, 7 p.m. nightly at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, New Canton, with the Rev. Roger Woody of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church speaking each night. Music will be featured each evening.
