Hampden-Sydney College (H-SC) Head Football Coach Marty Favret has announced his program’s upcoming 2019 schedule that includes eight Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) games for the first-time ever, a H-SC athletics press release cited.
Officials noted in the release that the Tigers will play 10 games this fall, including the eight ODAC contests, with five scheduled at home and five on the road.
“It will be ‘survival of the fittest’ as the league, per usual, presents tough tests on a weekly basis,” said Favret, who is entering his 20th year at the helm of the Tigers. “I am encouraged that we will face two playoff caliber non-conference opponents in September. Hopefully, that will prep us for the challenges down the road.”
H-SC will open at home against Averett University on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 1 p.m. in a non-conference game at Fulton Field at Lewis C. Everett Stadium, the release stated. The Tigers fell 33-14 on the road against the Cougars in last year’s season opener in Danville. This year’s opening contest takes place during the annual Athletic Hall of Fame Weekend.
The Tigers go on the road in week two for another non-league game at Christopher Newport University on Saturday night, Sept. 14, under the lights at 7 p.m. in Newport News, officials said in the release. The Captains won last season’s closely-played game at Hampden-Sydney by a score of 17-13.
The release noted that H-SC begins its eight-game ODAC stretch in week three with a road game at Southern Virginia University on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 1 p.m. in Buena Vista. The Tigers and Knights have never met previously on the gridiron.
