Summertime fun in the neighborhood

Buckingham Extension office is hosting a 4-H Fun Art Day on Friday, July 5, from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. for ages 5-18. The theme is painting and more. Plan to paint a canvas with step-by-step instructions, explore other artistic media and have time to play outside, too.

Registered Tech Pesticide Training will be held June 18-20 at the Southern Piedmont AREC in Blackstone. Participants interested in taking a paper test can return to the SPAREC, with approval letter on July 18, or take the test at DMV. Testing date will be Thursday, July 11, beginning at 10 a.m.

Join the 154th anniversary of Third Liberty Baptist Church at 2244 C. G. Woodson Road, New Canton, on Sunday, June 23, at 3 p.m. Guest preacher is Pastor Patrick Bland of Mt. Pero Baptist Church. The theme “Transitioning to the Next Level” comes from Philippians 3:12-14. Pastor Kippy and Lady Cynthia Lundy serve as the host pastors.

Quick Start Tennis, sponsored by the Buckingham County Parks and Recreation, is being held June 24-28 from 9-11 a.m. at the Buckingham High School. Quick Start Tennis is a growing program that USTA (United States Tennis Association) has developed. With the class designed for ages 6-11, Instructor Zelda Maxie will introduce tennis to youth at an earlier age. Horsemanship II Camp will be held July 15-19 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. and is offered for intermediate riders, ages 7-16, or riders who have completed Horsemanship I camp. Riding lessons will focus on developing an independent seat, more advanced riding skills, and a more in-depth study of horse management skills. This camp introduces hunt seat, western, gymkhana, and dressage riding styles, as well as the opportunity to learn to drive a cart through an obstacle course. Buckingham County Youth League girls’ softball tournament for the district and state will include games on June 21 in Amelia for the Angels and Belles Districts. The boy’s baseball tournament will take place on June 14 in Amelia for T-ball and coach pick and on June 21 in Cumberland for the majors and Buckingham for the minors.

Third Liberty Baptist Church at 2244 C.G. Woodson Road in New Canton will host a Trustee and Diaconate Ministry Workshop on Saturday, June 15. Registration and continental breakfast starts at 9:15 a.m. and workshops run from 10 a.m.-noon at no cost. Hosted by Pastor Kippy Lundy and Lady Cynthia Lundy. Facilitators are Brenda Bashir and the Rev. Robert Pettis. All are welcome. This is for all ministries in the church.

The Buckingham Library is hosting a Late Night Library event on Friday, from 6-7 p.m. for an activity the whole family can enjoy. This month, play your way through a giant version of Candyland. Draw the right cards to move along colored paths. Be the first to reach Rainbow Castle to taste sweet victory. Then on Saturday, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., enjoy a special summer snack and learn a new summer game at the Summer Food and Games Day. Summer movie showing at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Be prepared for outdoor and wet games weather permitting.
