The Hampden-Sydney College (H-SC) tennis team was ranked 20th in the final 2018-19 Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III Men’s Atlantic South Region Rankings, as administered by the ITA, an H-SC press release cited Wednesday. It is the first time the program has been regionally ranked at the end of the season since 2011, when it finished 15th. H-SC completed its first campaign under the guidance of first-year Head Coach Byron Balkin, who led the program to 10 wins over the final 12 contests while making a second consecutive appearance in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tournament championship match. The Tigers finished 13-10 overall, including 10-1 in the ODAC. Hampden-Sydney placed six student-athletes on the 2019 All-ODAC Men’s Tennis Teams, including junior Clark Cummings and freshman Tyler Brice as first team All-ODAC selections in both singles and doubles along with junior brothers Matthew Moody and Michael Moody as first team All-ODAC choices in doubles. In addition, junior Grayson Burns and sophomore William Driskill were each second team All-ODAC selections in both singles and doubles. H-SC had no seniors among its nine-member team roster during 2018-19.
