Firework shows in Farmville and Meherrin will be taking place over the next few weeks.
The Meherrin Fire & Rescue Independence Day celebration is set to take place Saturday, June 29, starting at 11 a.m.
According to Meherrin Fire & Rescue Chief Trey Pyle, Brunswick stew will be ready by 11 a.m. and there will be vendors and music performances by the Stepback Band, based in Rice that starts at 4 p.m.
Admission is free. There will be a boot drive at the gate to support Meherrin Fire & Rescue.
The adjusted date for this year’s event, Pyle said, is due to schedule conflicts with some of the event organizers.
The fireworks show will begin at 9:30 p.m. Alcohol and pets are prohibited. To be a vendor or for any additional information, inquires can be made to the Meherrin Fire & Rescue Facebook page or contact Pyle at (434) 547-7861.
The Town of Farmville’s celebration is scheduled for Wednesday, July 3, at the Farmville Regional Airport, 130 Wedgewood Drive.
Gates open at 4:30 p.m. During the celebration, music by Double Clutch Band is scheduled between 6-7:30 p.m. and music by Soul Expressions is scheduled from 8-10:30 p.m.
Food vendors and activities at the Farmville airport are set to take place during the celebration, with a fireworks show capping the event.
