Stars under the stars opens June 14

The Downtown Film Series 22nd season of the award-winning Stars Under The Stars opens June 14.

Started in 1997 as a leadership Farmville project, the Series has brought over 55 timeless motion pictures back to the big screen for the Farmville and surrounding communities. Covering classic film eras and genres, the movies are presented in the grassy outdoor venue at Crute Stage and have included such favorites as “Mary Poppins,” “Cool Hand Luke,” “Annie,” “Ghostbusters,” and so many more.

Kicking off its 22nd season with Kevin Bacon in “Footloose” (1984, Rated PG). On July 12, fly away to Neverland with Tinkerbell and the three Darling children in Disney’s “Peter Pan” (1953, rated G). Finishing out its season Aug. 9, as Marlon Brando in “On the Waterfront” (1954, not rated).

Movies begin at dusk at Crute Stage, located on the corner of Main and Fourth Streets in downtown Farmville. Come early for pre-show trivia and giveaways. Parking is available on Main Street and in the municipal parking lot behind the courthouse. Admission is always free, and popcorn, candy and drinks will be available for purchase. There is a “No Pets” policy. In the event of rain, films will be shown the following evening at dusk. Bring your blankets and bag chairs and spend an evening in downtown Farmville under the stars.
