Prince Edward girls and boys teams each finish 2nd in Region 2A track & field

Prince Edward County High School’s varsity girls and boys outdoor track and field teams finished as runners-up at the Region 2A Championships in Richmond on May 22. The host team, Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School won both the girls and boys team competitions with 183 and 164 points, respectively. The Prince Edward Lady Eagles finished with 118 points, 44 ahead of the third-place team, and the Eagles finished with 82 points, one ahead of the third-place team. Leading Prince Edward’s girls team was sophomore Haniyyah Johnson, who individually finished first in the girls 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and long jump. Additionally, the Lady Eagles’ 4×100-meter relay team won, as did junior Makayla Morris in the girls high jump. Prince Edward’s boys team had only one first-place finish, reaching the line first in the boys 4×100-meter relay. But the Eagles had many high-placing athletes. Among those Eagles placing second were junior Abdul Johnson in the boys 100-meter dash, senior Tajh White in the boys 400-meter dash and senior Rah’Quan Payne in the boys long jump. Payne also placed third in the boys triple jump, while Abdul Johnson placed third in the long jump.
