Lady Eagles stand out at Heritage Invitational track meet

Prince Edward County High School’s varsity girls and boys outdoor track and field teams produced strong showings at the recent Heritage Invitational in Lynchburg, with the Lady Eagles recording six fire-place finishes, five of which featured junior Makayla Morris. Morris won the girls high jump with a 5-foot-5-inch leap; the girls long jump with a 16-6 leap; the girls triple jump with a 34-8 3/4 mark; the girls 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.21 seconds; and she won with her teammates in the girls 4×100-meter relay. Morris, senior Salma Muhammad, freshman Shania Jennings and sophomore Haniyyah Johnson combined for a winning time of 51.14 seconds. Senior Nia Lee placed first in the girls 300-meter hurdles with a time of 51.70 seconds. She was also a member of the Lady Eagles’ third-place 4×400-meter relay team with junior Naomi Jones, sophomore Kiera Walker and junior Trimaya Cash. Muhammad claimed second in the girls long jump and fourth in the girls 200-meter dash. Johnson was third in the girls 100-meter dash. For the Prince Edward boys team, sophomore Hayat Khan was fourth in the boys 1,600-meter run and sixth in the boys 800-meter run. The Eagles 4×100-meter relay team of senior Markel Jackson, senior Rahme Marshall, senior Rah’Quan Payne and junior Abdul Johnson placed fourth. Payne was also fifth in the boys long jump, and Jackson was sixth. Sophomore Rashaud Brown was sixth in the boys 300-meter hurdles. Johnson was sixth in the boys triple jump.
