APRIL 5

BATTLE OF THE BADGES BLOOD DRIVE, noon-6 p.m. hosted by the Farmville Police Department and the Farmville Fire Department at Johns Memorial Parish House, corner of High Street and George Street.

ARTISTS RECEPTION, 6-8 p.m. hosted by The Central Virginia Arts at the Riverside Café, 501 N. Main, Farmville. There will be three CVA member artists displaying their works during April and May, Sandra Breil, Mary Evlyn Upshaw and Janet Williams. There will be savories and sweet bites as well as beverages. The public is welcome and the event is free.

CABIN FILM SERIES, 7 p.m. featuring a free screening of the horror film “Mama,” at Longwood Cabin. This event is free and open to the public. No registration is required.

APRIL 6

MEN’S COFFEE CHAT, 8 a.m. at Farmville Baptist Church, in the fellowship hall. Men of all ages are welcome to join other men for an informal gathering with coffee, camaraderie and conversation.

ANNUAL SPRING FLING, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at Antioch United Methodist Church in Cumberland featuring a yard sale, bake sale, Pork barbecue and Chicken.

AUCTION AND CHURCH YARD SALE, 10 a.m. at the ball field behind Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in Buckingham. The auction will be conducted by Francisco Auction Co., Inc., Bill Talbert auctioneer. All proceeds go to the Scholarship Fund.

THIRD ANNUAL AUTISM RESOURCE FAIR, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Centra Alan B. Pearson Regional Cancer Center in Lynchburg. The event is free and open to the public and will feature child care and activities provided by experienced staff while family members visit informational tables and enjoy some pampering including chair massages. FREE CLOTHES CLOSET, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Goshen Baptist Church, 2381 Axtell Road, Howardsville.

COMMEMORATION PROGRAM, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. of the 154th anniversary of the Battles of Sailor’s Creek with living historians and guided walks through the battlefield. Exhibits and displays can be seen at the Hillsman House.

STUDIO TOURS, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at two different locations: Richard and Deborah McClintock, 1001 Fourth Ave., Farmville or Lisa Hoffman, 988 Sulphur Spring Road, Prospect. Come meet the artists, see their work and ask questions about their work. Refreshments available.

WOMEN’S MINISTRY SPRING LUNCHEON, noon-2 p.m. hosted by Sister’s of Calvary Baptist Church. Guest speaker, Associate Minister Patrisha Flood will be Presenting “Characteristics of a Godly Women.” All are Welcome.

MONTHLY MEETING, 1:30 p.m. of The Judith Randolph-Longwood Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, at the Farmville-Prince Edward Community Library. Guest speaker will be Mani Aguilar, Au.D., CCC-A Clinical Audiologist, Longwood University. The topic will be “Women’s Health: “Know About Your Hearing.” There will also be the presentation of awards for the American History Essay Contest winners.

SERVICES, 8:30 and 11 a.m. worship services with 9:45 a.m. Sunday school at Farmville United Methodist Church. Worship service at Wesley Foundation at 5:30 p.m.

BIBLE STUDY, 9:45 a.m. at Farmville Baptist Church. Worship service begins at 11 a.m.

GUEST MINISTER, 11 a.m. at First Rock Baptist Church of Prospect will be the Rev. Clarence Eldridge, associate minister of the Baptist Union Baptist Church. All are welcome.

HSC MUSIC SERIES, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. presents Master and Pupil: Haydn and Beethoven at Brinkley 101 – Thompson Commons.

STORY AND CRAFT TIME, 11 a.m. at the J. Robert Jamerson Memorial Library, Main Street, Appomattox. Members of the Master Gardeners Club of Appomattox will read books. The event will be held outside in Abbitt Park, and children will get to plant strawberries to take home. This program lasts approximately 45 minutes.

LENTEN SERVICE/ FREE LUNCHEON, noon-1 p.m. at Payne Memorial United Methodist Church. The theme this year is “Season of Joy and Gladness.” The speaker will be the Rev. Helen Cannon and the topic is Unexpected Joy. Lunch will be provided by members of the congregation. All are welcome.

LENTEN SERVICES, 5:45 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church. We will begin with a soup supper with services at 7 p.m. All are welcome.

FUNDRAISER, 4-8 p.m. for Southside SPCA hosted by the Virginia Tasting Cellar. Ten percent of sales will be donated to help homeless pets.

CANDLELIGHT VIGIL AND TOSSING OF FLOWERS, 6 p.m. at Wilck’s Lake, West Third Street, Farmville in observance of National Crime Victim’s Rights Week hosted by Southside Center for Violence Prevention. Free and open to the public.

CHURCH BOUTIQUE AND BAKE SALE, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Farmville Baptist Church. New and gently used women’s clothing, jewelry and accessories.

BREAKFAST WITH THE EASTER BUNNY, 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. hosted by the Randolph District Fire Department and Auxiliary at the firehouse, 2145 Cumberland Road. Three Easter egg hunts will be held. First hunt, toddler to 3 years of age; second hunt, ages four to eight; and last hunt, ages nine -12. Have children bring their Easter baskets to collect the eggs. Make a donation at the door to support the fire department.

BOUTIQUE AND BAKE SALE, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Farmville Baptist Church. New and gently worn women’s clothes and homemade baked goods will be on sale. Proceeds will benefit the church’s Children’s Ministry and a local charity.

TEA FOR A CAUSE, 1-3 p.m. at 16955 Oak St., the purple house in Dillwyn, to support the Michael J. Fox Foundation. Borrow or wear your favorite hat, fascinator and/or boa. Enjoy a cup of tea and something sweet to support this charity. You may donate on the Michael J. Fox Foundation website with your credit card, or write a check at the event. Check and cash donations will be collected and mailed into the foundation. There will be door prizes. Everyone welcome.
