Willie ‘Billy’ Carlton Roach

Willie “Billy” Carlton Roach, 86 passed away on March 24, 2019 at The Woodland in Farmville, VA. He was born on June 29, 1932 at Madisonville, VA in Charlotte County. He is preceded in death by his parents Willie Anderson Roach and Clara Davis Roach and an infant sister Betty Roach.

He lived most of his life in Prince Edward County, attended Darlington Heights and Worsham schools. As a very young man he worked on the farm then joined the Sheriff’s Department as a deputy sheriff under Jack Overton, later working under Sheriff Howard Simpson, Gene Southall and Travis Harris. He retired from the Sheriff’s Department after 40 years of service on December 31, 2007. He was a member of Buffalo Presbyterian Church since childhood.

He is survived by three sisters; twin sister Elsie Finch, Gladys Locks and Evelyn Taylor, one nephew Douglas Finch, three nieces Brenda Dempsey, Catherine Locks and Susan Locks, three great nephews Benjamin Dempsey, Benjamin Locks, three great-nieces Erin Finch, Roxanne Catron, one great-great niece and nephew Marissa Dempsey and Noah Harris, two special friends, Evelyn Hanna and Anthony Davis.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 29, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Shorter Funeral Home with burial to follow at Centenary Methodist Church, Madisonville, VA. Family will receive friends Thursday, March 28, from 6-7:30 p.m. at Shorter Funeral Home.
