Construction on one house in the Town of Dillwyn’s Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG) is more than 50 percent complete, according to documentation from the Commonwealth Regional Council (CRC).

A memorandum from CRC issued March 5 cited that a house on White Street has undergone construction and was estimated to be 50 percent complete as of March 5.

The memorandum cited a discussion with the Department of Historic Resources (DHR) about potential historical significance affecting a few houses involved with the project.

The memorandum goes on to state that the DHR would not need to review paperwork for a second house on White Street because it is a straight demolition and there is no new construction.

“We provided DHR with a copy of the Rehab Specialist’s inspection report on 51 Culbreth (St.) for their review, so they could make a determination on the proposed scope,” the memorandum cited.

Dillwyn was announced as one of 15 localities receiving funding from the CDBG program in 2017, according to a previous Herald report. The DHCD approved a change in the CDBG allocation for this project, per revised budget figures sent to DHCD. The grant award amount is now $445,400, an increase from the previous amount of $176,300.
