Starting a sheep or goat enterprise workshop

Have you thought about starting a sheep or goat enterprise? Are you interested in raising your own sheep or goats? The Virginia Cooperative Extension-Cumberland office is offering a workshop on Starting a Sheep or Goat Enterprise April 30 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Randolph VFD at 2145 Cumberland Road, Farmville. Sheep and goats can be raised to provide meat, milk, or fiber, as well as for 4-H projects, clearing brush, or simply as pets. This workshop covers all the basics you will need to start your own sheep or goat enterprise, from insurance, tax and legal considerations to breed selection, equipment, health and reproduction of your animals. There will even be hands-on activities that afternoon at the farm of a local producer. Registration forms must be received by April 19.

On Saturday, March 30, from 2-3 p.m., the Buckingham Library is having a Dino Day. Come learn about dinosaurs with a story, craft and even a dino excavation. The library is located at 1140 Main St., in Dillwyn.

Don’t forget the Buckingham Library Wine and Cheese fundraiser to be held Saturday from 6-9 p.m. at the Buckingham VFW Hall. The benefit will be held to raise funds for the furnishings, fixtures and equipment for the new library in Buckingham. Ticket price includes wine, non-alcoholic beverages and hors d’oeuvres. Items for the silent auction will be open for bids until 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door, from a member of the Fundraising Committee or at the Buckingham County Public Library, 1140 Main St., Dillwyn. Annual Gospel Explosion will be held on Saturday, March 30, at Crystal Cathedral Church, 16764 Oak St. in Dillwyn at 2 p.m. Free admission with donation.

Soup and sandwich dinner will be held on Sunday at 5 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church. Donations for admission to the dinner will go toward the Annie Armstrong Easter offering to support mission work in America and Canada. The church is located at the intersection of Francisco and Deer Run Roads in Sheppards.

2019 Fencing School hosted by Virginia Forage & Grassland Council and Virginia Cooperative Extension will take place on Wednesday, April 3, at the BARN facility in Buckingham or Wednesday, April 17, at Alphin-Stuart Livestock Arena in Blacksburg. The event begins at 8 a.m. and concludes at 5 p.m. Lunch and all materials are included in the cost. Registration and payment must be done in advance. Space is limited to 30 attendees per location.
