The Farmville Area Chamber of Commerce will “Swing into Spring” on May 9 with a new look and location for its annual golf tournament. The 13th annual Farmville Area Chamber Centra Southside Golf Classic will be held this year at the Farmville Municipal Golf Course.

“We are so pleased to be able to host the Chamber tournament again this year,” Chamber Board Member Brad Watson said. “We’ve made several changes to our format that we hope will enhance everyone’s experience while raising much-needed funds for the Farmville Area Chamber of Commerce.”

The first change is a new venue.

“We will play at the Farmville Municipal Golf Course, a first for us,” Watson continued. “The Town of Farmville has really worked hard to accommodate our needs, and we are so appreciative of their efforts.”

The second change for this year is a choice of morning or afternoon tournament rounds. Both 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. tee-off times will be offered with a shotgun and scramble format.

“Participants can choose which round they wish to play based on availability,” Watson adds. “Golfers will have multiple opportunities to win prizes during their rounds.”

As in past tournaments, a number of sponsorship levels are available. As fields fill up quickly, the Chamber advises early reservations.

“We are very excited about our tournament this year,” Chamber Executive Director Joy Stump says. “Our committee has planned an awesome experience for all participants with lots of fun games at some of the holes. Navona Hart, with Real Living Cornerstone, will be back with a putting and chipping contest — Navona always brings enthusiasm to the day!”

After the tournament, from 5-7:30 p.m., a dinner party and awards presentation will be held.

“That evening we will host a spectacular gathering for golf awards, food, fun, and additional prizes and giveaways,” Watson noted. “The evening is free and open to all tournament golfers as well as any Chamber member.”

“We’re most excited to offer our ‘Swing into Spring’ party in the golf course ballroom,” Stump added. “We want to celebrate spring, eat, drink, be merry and we have a lovely dinner catered by Fishin’ Pig.”

As always, the Chamber appreciates the support of the Farmville community.

“My favorite part of this annual event is having so many people from our community coming together,” Stump concluded. “We have the golfers, of course, but we have many others who come out to volunteer. I love to see business people making connections and having a great time. I appreciate everyone who helps make our tournament a success.”
