Nannie Mae Monk

Nannie Mae Monk was born on November 11, 1923 in Prince Edward County to the late Silas Redd, Sr. and Nellie Medley Redd.

She was a member of Forest Baptist Church and received her education at Mission School in Meherrin, Virginia.

Nannie married Raymond Monk on March 25, 1957 in White Plains, New York. From that union three children were born: Shelia, Milton and Clifton. Raymond, Sheila and Clifton predeceased her.

Nannie is survived by one son, Milton (Gail) Monk of Meherrin; six grandchildren: Nakima, Charde, Tarrence, Travis, Mariah and Milton Jr.; fourteen great-grandchildren; three sisters: Gladys Wiggins, Helena Brooks (Billy) and Earnestine Patterson (Fernell); two sisters-in-law, Colene Jones and Darlene Monk; and a host of nieces and nephews and a special friend, Lizzie Scott.

In addition to her parents, husband and two children, Nannie was preceded in death by four brothers: Henry, Sammy, Silas, Jr., “Bubba” and Charlie; four sisters: Clara, Marjorie, Harriet and Verneeda.

Funeral services were held February 9 at Forest Baptist Church, Meherrin, with the Rev. Leon Jackson pastor and eulogist. Interment was in the church cemetery.
