Herman ‘Shield’ Anderson Jr.

Herman “Shield” Anderson Jr. passed away peacefully on Friday, February 15, 2019 surrounded by family. Shield was the son of Herman S. Anderson Sr. and Estelle Vaughn Anderson. Shield was raised in Andersonville, Virginia where he spent his later years farming beef cattle and making hay. Shield began his career as a business man in 1956 when he opened Anderson Tire Company in Dillwyn, VA.
He proudly served his country in the US Army from 1952-1954 and was stationed in Germany.
He married Barbara Ann Wood of Wingina, VA. He and Barbara had two sons, William S.“Bill” Anderson and Brian Keith Anderson.
He was blessed with four beloved grandchildren, Anne Tyler, Amber Alease, Porter Brooks, and Bailey Ann.
Shield was a stern businessman, but would always lend a hand or the shirt off his back to help out those in need. He will truly be missed by those in the community. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Herman and Estelle, by his wife Barbara, and by his oldest son, Bill. He is survived by his two sisters, Claudia Chisholm and Estaline “Teen” McCraw, his son Brian (Denise), granddaughters Anne Tyler, Amber, & Bailey, and grandson, Brooks.
Shield has found his peace, and is now rejoicing with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, February 19, at 11 a.m. in Bethel United Methodist Church with interment in the church cemetery. Family received friends on Monday, February 18, from 5-8 p.m. at Puckett Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, c/o C.B.
