The Friends of the Barbara Rose Johns Farmville-Prince Edward Community Library donated the proceeds from the 2018 Harvest Moon Champagne and Chocolate Gala to children’s programming for the Central Virginia Regional Library (CVRL).

The gala, held in October 2018, was the fourth such fundraising event held by the Friends. During the January 2019 Friends’ board meeting, the vote to donate the proceeds was approved. Friends Chair Robin Sedgwick presented a check in the amount of $5,200 to Megan Almond, CVRL Youth Services Specialist, just prior to the start of the library’s Doll Tea Party which was held Saturday, Feb. 9.

The Friends of the Barbara Rose Johns Farmville/Prince Edward Community Library exist to serve the community and the library in the following ways: raise revenue for library needs, promote library use, and help develop library programs and services.

The Friends hold two book sales per year to achieve those goals; beginning in 2014, the Friends have held an annual fall gala which directs the proceeds to a specific library purpose. This is the third year in which the proceeds have been directed to children’s programming. The funds have been used to bring storytellers, magicians, puppeteers and other special events to the libraries in Farmville and Buckingham.
