Bravo to Buckingham

We would like to offer a hearty congratulations to the Buckingham County High School varsity girls basketball team on a season of fulfilled goals and outstanding success.

The Lady Knights finished the 2018-19 season with an 18-5 overall record, winning the James River District (JRD) regular season championship and tournament championship.

Only once did the Buckingham girls lose two games in a row, but after they did, they rattled off a streak of nine straight wins that included the two championships.

The team was led by the mother-daughter duo of Head Coach Kelly Chambers and senior guard Jayda Chambers. Fittingly, they received the district Coach of the Year and Player of the Year honors, respectively.

But they would be the first to say they could not have done it by themselves, as the team’s success was also made possible by a variety of standouts, both upperclassmen and underclassmen.

The 2018-19 Lady Knights were comprised of 12 players: junior Kaya Amos, freshman Alana Ballowe, junior Amil Bolden, freshman Nevaeh Booker, senior Jayda Chambers, freshman Nikia Chambers, junior Hannah Davis, freshman Shamayah Gresham, senior Tamiyah Gough, freshman Lauren Randolph, sophomore Morgan Randolph and senior Shamari Wingfield.

Assistant coaches included Linda Amos and Chris Baird.

Congratulations, Lady Knights!
