Betty Joyce Smith, 83 of Farmville, VA passed away on February 25, 2019.

She was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania to the late Walter A. and Mary Eby Birkenheiser on December 18, 1935. She enjoyed watching NASCAR, figure skating and making Christmas ornaments.
She retired from the City of Hyattsville, MD Police Department in 1988 and moved to Farmville where she worked at Walmart.
She is survived by her daughter Susan E. Shifflet (Fred), a son Dale R. McGloin (Shari), a sister Fern M. Reddan, a nephew James M. Reddan DMA, a brother Harold K. Birkenheiser, 2 granddaughters; Amanda L. Aldi (Domenico), DeeAnn L. Morris, 3 great-grandchildren, and a special friend and companion Raymond Warfel.
Family will receive friends at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, in the chapel of Puckett Funeral Home. A service will follow at 2 p.m.
