William Elton Franklin, 85 of Prospect entered into the arms of Jesus on January 9, 2019. He was surrounded by his family and an abundance of love. He fought a long and courageous battle against Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
He was born and raised on the farm in Prospect. He moved across the field to a home when he married Linda, the only woman he ever loved. He spent his life farming, raising tobacco, cutting wood, hunting, fishing, attending auctions and finding treasures at yard sales & flea markets. He made farming his career and taught his son Robby everything he knew. Their father and son bond was strong and solid. He was very proud to be his dad. But, his pride soared over the moon when he became a grandfather. His three granddaughters could do no wrong! He loved them tremendously and they knew it. He leaves priceless memories of after school french fry dates and ice cream parties.
He was a member of Glenn Memorial Baptist Church and the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. He was a friend to many and had a heart of gold.
Elton is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Linda McFadden Franklin, son & daughter in law Robby & Dana Franklin and three granddaughters Samantha, Allison & Caitlin Franklin. Brother Clarence Franklin and sister Nannie Virginia “Gin” Nelson. Numerous nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert & Hallie Franklin, brothers Kennith, Curtis and Lawrence Franklin.
Family night was held Friday January 11, from 6-8 p.m. at Puckett Funeral Home in Farmville. A Funeral service was held on Saturday January 12, at 1 p.m. at Glenn Memorial Baptist Church in Prospect with internment in the church cemetery.
