Tigers fall to No. 16 Yellow Jackets

Randolph-Macon College’s men’s basketball team led by just five at the half, 38-33, in its showdown with host Hampden-Sydney College (H-SC) on Dec. 5, but the No. 16-ranked Yellow Jackest pulled away for a 92-71 win.
With the loss, the Tigers fell to 4-3 overall and 1-2 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC).
Randolph-Macon scored the first 10 points of the game in less than two minutes and led 17-2 after five minutes of play.
H-SC junior point guard Chaise Johnson proceeded to will the Tigers back into the game as he went on a personal 13-3 run to trim the deficit down to just five, 20-15, at the 12-minute, 15-second mark.
The Tiger defense locked in and other players got involved offensively, and H-SC trimmed the deficit down to 22-20 at 9:13.
The Yellow Jackets would lead for the rest of the half but by no more than seven at any point, with the Tigers going into halftime trailing 38-33.
Randolph-Macon opened the second half scoring 12 of the first 16 points to jump ahead 50-37 at the 16:29 mark. It would lead by double digits the remainder of the game.
For H-SC, senior forward/guard Justin Reid contributed 14 points with three boards, Johnson also scored 14 points to go with three rebounds and three assists, and sophomore center/forward Jake Hahn recorded 13 points and added a team-high four assists off the bench.
The Tigers will host Ferrum College on Saturday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m.
