DECEMBER 7

COOKIES, CRAFTS AND MORE, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. sponsored by the Farmville United Methodist Women in the church social hall/ basement at 212 High St. Lunches will be available for dine-in or take out. All proceeds benefit missions.

HOLIDAY WORKSHOP, 9 a.m-3 p.m. entitled “Seeds of the Season” sponsored by the Amelia, Prince Edward and Nottoway Extension offices in the Amelia County Administrator Building Conference Room, 16360 Dunn St. Pre-register by Dec. 1 to the Prince Edward Extension Office (434) 392-4246.

ARTIST’S RECEPTION, 6-8 p.m. at the Riverside Café. The All Members Art Show features art from many of the CVA members, and the art will be hanging at the Riverside Café through January. The public is welcome. Refreshments and finger foods will be provided.

HOLIDAY HOUSE TOUR AND BENEFIT DINNER, 6 p.m. presented by Harlan L Horton, PC at The Hotel Weyanoke’s Campagna. A portion of this year’s proceeds will benefit Piedmont Senior Resources Area Agency on Aging.

KEYSVILLE CHRISTMAS PARADE, 7 p.m. Bundle up your crew. Get ready for floats, music, lights and smiles. Santa will end the parade with a stop in the Tea Room. Stop by to have your picture taken with Santa. Email underthesunfashion.sl@gmail.com for more information.

DECEMBER 7, 8 & 9

LIGHTS AT THE LAKE, 5-7:30 p.m. at Bear Creek Lake State Park. Visitors to the park will drive their car through the park’s campground and beach area to experience a wonderland of lights and popular seasonal figures.

DECEMBER 8

2018 JINGLE BELL RUN 5K, 9 a.m. First Avenue Field. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. Visit www.farmvilleva.com for more info or www.runsignup.com to register.

CLOTHING GIVEAWAY, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Tearwallet Baptist Church, Anderson Hwy., Cumberland.

HOLIDAY HOUSE TOUR 10 a.m.-3 p.m. presented by the Farmville Area Chamber of Commerce. This year’s event includes seven homes, Longwood University’s Rotunda and the Centra Hospitality House. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Piedmont Senior Resources. For tickets or more information visit farmvilleareachamber.org

S’MORES AND SING, 5-7:30 p.m. at Bear Creek Lake Hall. Toasty coals will be ready for your marshmallows, and roasting sticks will be available. S’more-making kits available for a nominal donation. There will also be a craft table to create a free seasonal ornament. Throughout the evening, there will be opportunities to join in holiday-themed songs.

BOOK SIGNING, 1-4 p.m. by “The Snow Queen” at the Sleeping Bee in Farmville.

CHRISTMAS DRAMA, 6, 7 and 8 p.m. of the Antioch Union Baptist Church Theatrical Ministry entitled “The Message of Christmas: A Walking Christmas Drama” at the church in Dillwyn. No charge. For more information call (434) 610-0138.

SWAP MEET/GIVEAWAY, 10 a.m-2 p.m. at New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Appomattox. Various types of clothing, household items, and nonperishable foods will be available. The public is welcome to come out and shop for free.

HOME COOKED DINNERS, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. will be sold at the home of Mary Gould located at 2521 Cumberland Road.

DECEMBER 9

COMMONWEALTH CHORALE, 3 p.m. will present Johan Sebastian Bach’s Christmas Oratorio at Farmville United Methodist Church. Free of charge.

PANCAKE SUPPER, 5-7:30 p.m. at Bear Creek Lake Hall. Santa Claus will make a special appearance. For a donation, you can have a souvenir photograph with Santa.

CHRISTMAS PROGRAM, 6:30 p.m. at Salem United Methodist Church, 2160 Caira Road, Cumberland, entitled “The Nativity Story.”

GUEST PREACHER, 11 a.m. at Forest Baptist Church of Meherrin will be the Rev. Phillip Flood of Lynchburg. All are welcome.

CHRISTMAS PROGRAM, 6 p.m. at Cedar Baptist Church, 3932 Bell Road Dillwyn. Refreshments will follow.

ADVENT SUNDAY/ PEACE, 11 a.m. at Farmville Baptist Church, 132 North Main St., Farmville.

BENEFIT, 3 p.m. by the youth ministry of Mt. Zion Second Baptist Church to benefit the scholarship fund. Guest preacher will be Minister Wendy Lyle Jones from Church of all Nations, Farmville. She will be accompanied by New Bethel Youth Choir of Meherrin. The church is located on 3753 Green Bay Road, Green Bay. All are welcome.

DECEMBER 10

QUARTERLY MEETING, 7 p.m. of The Cumberland Missionary and Educational Conference at Bright Hope Center, Route 45, Cumberland.

DECEMBER 11

ADDITIONAL 4TH MEETING, 1 p.m. of the CRC along with local Soil and Water Conservation Districts at the Prince Edward Natural Resources and Agricultural Building in Farmville. This meeting will serve as the last public meeting of the WIP Process, to ensure that local input is received as both the urban and agricultural input decks will be presented at this meeting.

DECEMBER 12

ADVENT SERVICES/ LUNCHEONS, noon at Payne Memorial Methodist Church in Cumberland. Theme this year is “Surprises Along the Way.” A free lunch will be served. Guest speaker is the Rev. Barry Vassar. All are welcome. The church is located at 1 Stoney Point Road in Cumberland (across from the Courthouse).

DECEMBER 14

OPEN HOUSE, 11 a.m-4 p.m. sponsored by Peter Francisco Soil and Water District located at the USDA Service Center at Sprouse’s Corner in Buckingham. Residents from Buckingham and Cumberland counties are welcome to come see what services the District and several partner agencies can offer them. Light refreshments will be served. VA DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS SERVICES, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. will be in Farmville at the Farmville-Prince Edward Library, 1303 West Third St., Farmville. Call the Lynchburg office at (434) 582-5102 with any questions.

DECEMBER 15

BRUNCH WITH SANTA, 10 a.m.-noon sponsored by The Randolph District Volunteer Fire Department and Auxiliary at the firehouse, 2145 Cumberland Road. The menu will be egg casserole, pancakes, juice and coffee. Bring your children to talk with Santa. Donate at the door to support the Fire Department.

OUTDOOR LIVE NATIVITY, 7 p.m. at Hobsons Chapel, 6483 Old Buckingham Road, Powhatan. See the Reason for the Season in this inspirational play with live actors and animals. Refreshments served car side before the play and finger foods served inside after the play. All are welcome to fellowship and celebrate.

CHRISTMAS AT CLAYTON, 10 a.m-3 p.m. at Clayton Homes, Farmville. Enjoy pictures with Santa, stockings for children and a raffle. Everyone welcome.

10TH PASTOR ANNIVERSARY, 3 p.m. at The Gill Hill Baptist Church for their Pastor Isiah Hurt. The Rev. Charles Woolfolk of The White Oak Grove Baptist Church, Phenix will be the guest along with his choir. Everyone welcome.

ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PROGRAM, 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Red House. Help us celebrate the true reason for this season.

RIDE WITH A RANGER, 11 a.m. at Main Street Plaza, sponsored by High Bridge Trail State Park.
