Carolyn Peters Zirkle Helgeson departed this life on Thursday, November 29, 2018.
On August 2, 1941, Raymond and Muriel Peters welcomed their first child, Carolyn Lee, into the world. Carolyn graduated from Cumberland High School and Richmond Business College and worked as the Clerk of the Court for the Supreme Court of Virginia in the Cumberland County Combined Court System for 58 years. Upon her recent retirement, the Supreme Court of Virginia recognized her for her years of exemplary and dedicated service as Clerk of the Court. Carolyn played the piano and organ at Payne Memorial United Methodist Church in Cumberland, for over 50 years and served on numerous community and regional boards.
Carolyn is survived by her children Ernest Bruce Zirkle, Sr. and Amy Zirkle Warlitner; grandson E.B. (Jr.); sisters Judith Peters Sams and Rebecca Peters; nieces Jennifer Sams Turner and Barrie Sutherland; Zan Turner, Hayes Turner, Peyton Turner, Scott Warlitner, LaDonna Lewis, Amanda Zirkle, Michael Turner, Richard Gallagher, and other family members.
The family will receive friends at Center Presbyterian Church in Cumberland on December 8, from 1 to 3 p.m. A service honoring her life and memory will be held at 3 p.m., followed by interment in the church cemetery.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary at 22 Ivy Lane, Cartersville, VA 23027.
