Out of the fewer than 1,000 chosen to participate in the game show, “Wheel of Fortune,” Dillwyn resident Felicia Myles was one of them. Her episode aired on Black Friday, no less.

“Each year there are tens of thousands of people who try out for Wheel of Fortune and only 600 are chosen,” Myles said. “I feel so blessed to have been 1 of the 600 chosen.”

Myles is a fan of the game show, where contestants spin a wheel and work to guess word puzzles for prizes.

Myles eyed the opportunity to audition for the show. After support from members of her family, she decided to audition.

While some assumed that she auditioned when Wheel of Fortune was holding live auditions in Richmond in October, Myles said she applied online, which required filling out an application and submitting a video describing why she wanted to be on the show.

On the episode of Wheel of Fortune Myles is featured, she quickly guesses the first puzzle and describes herself as a fan of the Dallas Cowboys football team and a singer at Baptist Union Baptist Church, based in Dillwyn.

Myles is married, the mother of four children and grandmother to a granddaughter.

While it aired on Black Friday, Myles said the episode was filmed on Sept. 14 in Culver City, located in Los Angeles, inside Sony Entertainment Studios. Myles said crew asked her and those she competed with to arrive the day before, and she said she left the day after taping.

“The response from everyone has been amazing!” Myles said. “When I finally was able to tell people I was on the show, some believed me and some didn’t. Some thought I was pranking them, and some thought it was not the actual show.” She said she has received requests for autographs from strangers.

“So many have said that I am a star and a big time celebrity,” Myles said. “I laugh and tell them I am not a celebrity. I am just a small town girl who was blessed enough to have her dream come true.”

She said she was intentional about saying she was from the town of Dillwyn, expressing pride in her hometown.

“It was not easy, but if you want something in life you have to believe you can achieve it,” Myles said about the process to appear on the show. “I am so grateful for all the positive reactions and all the love and support I have received.”

“Just being able to meet Pat and Vanna, tour the Wheel of Fortune set, see the production that goes into filming a game show and be a part of the show was an honor,” Myles said, “one I will cherish always.”
