Longwood instrumental ensembles at Jarman Auditorium

On Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 7:30 p.m. the Longwood University Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble will present a free concert at Jarman Auditorium on the LU campus. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend. Doors will open at 7 p.m.

The Wind Symphony, under the direction of Dr. Gordon Ring, will perform music by Edward Elgar, Franz Schubert, and Henry Fillmore. Dr. Christopher Swanson, tenor, will be featured on a world premiere arrangement by Dr. Gordon Ring of the classic Schubert song, “The Erlking.”

The LU Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Charles Kinzer, will perform music from Dave Brubeck, Duke Ellington, and Blood, Sweat & Tears, among others.

The jazz program will feature Emre Kartari, a professional percussionist, as guest soloist. Student soloists include Jordan Smith, a senior trombonist from Norfolk, Joshua Golub, a senior saxophonist from Williamsburg, and Micheal Norwood, a senior bassist from Chester.
