John Joseph Schmucker, 68, passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2018 after a long illness.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Celina (Emore), and his loving family, his “Mom”, Gloria C. Lewis; devoted sister, Cindy E. Coleman, and her children Kendall and David; a large family in Dinwiddie, VA that adored him, Chris and Shelley Bowles and their children Meagan, Emily, Lindsey and Peyton; Donnie Lewis and his daughter Khloe; Doug and Donna Gravely, son Larry and daughter Jessica of Chesterfield; father in law, James R. Emore and his wife Bette of Glasgow, Va.; brother-in-law, Jimmy Emore his wife Margaret and children, Piper, Payton and Tre; loving sister-in-law Tammy Emore and son Justin Fainter; and many extended family members in the Rockbridge and Lexington, Virginia areas.

Born in Rochester, New York, John was the son of the late Harold and Dorothy Schmucker. John had a successful career of 33 years with Dominion – Virginia Power and during that time developed many caring relationships and friendships through his career in the Charlottesville and Richmond areas. A very special thank you to his lifelong friend Daniel Bateman, of Earlysville for his devotion to John and all he loved. John and Celina owned Aspen Hill Quarter Horses in Rice, sharing it for many years with those who loved and cared about animals as they have. John loved Aspen Hill, his dogs Ellie, Aspen and Austin, their horses Star, Chip and Joey, and was devoted to it and his wife Celina.

The family would like to thank Centra Hospice of Farmville, and their wonderful staff for all they did to provide wonderful at home care for John. A memorial service is planned for this Saturday, October 6th at Puckett Funeral Home Chapel in Farmville, at 11 a.m. The family will accept friends following the service at St. John’s Lutheran Church reception hall located at the front entrance area of Puckett Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, John requested that contributions be made in his name to your local animal rescue, SPCA or shelter.
