Mr. Schmidt, in his letter of Sept. 26, is so right about gun violence in identifying handguns as the weapon of choice in murder, not to mention suicides. Is there a need for automatic or semi-automatic weapons except in war? The Second Amendment clearly states that weapons are intended for a well-organized militia. Was George Zimmerman or Dylan Roof members of a militia?

The Second Amendment has been turned into a license to kill by the NRA (National Rifle Association). The NRA was once a good organization “aimed” toward mostly hunters. It has now become, in my opinion, another “weapon” to use in the war on the poor.

We need some weapons for hunting. Many hunters donate deer meat to the poor. We need weapons for rabid animals. The law enforcement agencies need weapons. The military needs weapons. I think it is a testosterone problem. Some people need to be stronger and better than others. I am a nobody and do not need a weapon except a fly swatter.
