Funding is available through the Peter Francisco Soil and Water Conservation District to help homeowners pay for 50 percent of the costs of septic system pump outs and repairs. The program also educates residents about proper septic system care and about the environmental and health impacts of failing septic systems. To qualify, applicants must live in the Slate River or Rock Island Creek watersheds in Buckingham County. Financial assistance is available regardless of income level. The deadline to submit applications is Nov. 16, and projects must be completed by Dec. 15.
