Farmville bells salute our WWI Veterans

Published 12:28 pm Wednesday, October 31, 2018

On Sunday, Nov. 11, High Bridge Trail State Park urge all area churches and institutions with bells, and any individuals with farm bells to toll them from 10:45-11 a.m. to commemorate the armistice and honor our local veterans of the Great War, which came to an end 100 years ago at 11 a.m., Nov. 11, 1918. This moment will create an experience for our citizens to reflect and remember how local, hometown people made extraordinary sacrifices, and connections between our community and places across an ocean. These connections still matter today.

There will also be a Century Armistice Commemoration Program at the Farmville Train Station at 2 p.m. on the same day. This event involves the American Legion, The Heart of Virginia Community Band and The Friends of High Bridge Trail. The Train Station is where many of our local veterans began and ended their journey and is their connection to our park. Refreshments and a view of artifacts will be available at the reception in the station.
