Fitzgerald Memorial Baptist Church located on 14 Fitzgerald Road, Cumberland, will be having Homecoming Sunday, Sept. 30. Worship service will begin at 11 a.m. with special music to feature “Dean Vassar” of Charlotte Court House followed by the morning message. Cumberland County Landfill Awareness Committee will have a community meeting concerning the proposed landfill to learn more and receive information about the stand against this issue. Payne Memorial UMC located at 1 Stoney Point Road, Cumberland will be hosting a free luncheon and devotional speaker each month from noon-1 p.m. The next scheduled event will be held Oct. 10 with guest speaker the Rev. Irma Watson speaking on the topic “Choosing Life – Being on God’s Side.” Different churches and individuals in the community provide the meals each month.

The Cumberland Community Christmas Mother program is in need of items and volunteers for the 2018 distribution season. In addition to staffing, the following items are needed; new board games (Monopoly, Operation, Trouble, etc.), new socks and clothing items. Donations of new items can be dropped off at Cumberland Social Services Monday-Friday between 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., located at 71 Community Center Drive, Cumberland. Financial contributions (checks) can be made payable to Cumberland Community Christmas Mother and sent to P.O. Box 33, Cumberland, Virginia 23040.
