Cumberland County Landfill Awareness Committee urges all citizens of Cumberland County and surrounding counties to attend a community meeting concerning the proposed landfill to learn more and receive information about the stand against this issue. Welcome all to the 12th Annual Fellowship Gospel Singing featuring “Smokey Wilson and Mark Bishop.” This will take place at Becky and Linda’s Powell’s home Friday from 5-9 p.m., located at 460 Holland Road, Farmville. Food and drinks will be provided. All you need is a chair and a desire for a blessing. Donations are accepted and appreciated. So come and join us for a time of uplifting, Praise and fellowship with friends and family. Bring a friend and remember to RSVP at (434) 315-0322 with number of guests. We hope to see you there.

Payne Memorial UMC located at 1 Stoney Point Road, Cumberland will be hosting a free luncheon and devotional speaker each month from noon-1 p.m. The next scheduled event will be held Wednesday, Oct. 10, with guest speaker the Rev. Irma Watson speaking on the topic “Choosing Life – Being on God’s Side” Various churches and individuals in the community provide the meals each month.

The Cumberland Community Christmas Mother program is in need of items and volunteers for the 2018 distribution season. In addition to staffing, the following items are needed. New board games, Monopoly, Operation, Trouble, etc.; new socks and clothing items. Donations of new items can be dropped off at Cumberland Social Services Monday-Friday between 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at 71 Community Center Drive, Cumberland. Financial contributions (checks) can be made payable to Cumberland Community Christmas Mother and sent to P.O. Box 33, Cumberland, Va. 23040. Those interested in volunteering can contact Debbie Kennel at (804) 980- 5022 or Barbara Daniels at (804) 986-5852. Volunteers are needed for setting up and resetting the shopping rooms as well as assisting shoppers with making selections. Those interested in more information are welcome to meet with the committee.

The Cumberland County Board of Supervisors monthly meeting is held every second Tuesday unless otherwise announced at 7 p.m. in the Cumberland County Court Room.

Happy birthday wishes are sent out this week to Charlotte Davis of New Canton Tuesday, Sept. 18, and Scott Midkiff of Cumberland Thursday, Sept. 20,.

The 2018 annual fall Miles Family Reunion will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Golden Corral in Richmond on Southside. All family members and guest are urged to attend.

A special happy anniversary wish goes this week to Kevin and Rene Marion of Cumberland Monday.

A speedy recovery is sent out to all those who are sick and shut-in.
