Frances Dickerson Slayton

Frances Dickerson Slayton, 89 of Pamplin, VA passed away peacefully on August 22, 2018. She was born on January 26,1929 to the late William Merton and Ida Layne Dickerson. She married her husband Bernard A. Slayton and together raised five children.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved to play the piano and played her last softball game with kids at the age of 69. She loved her church; she taught Sunday School for many years as well as functioned as church organist, pianist and a member of the choir. Her kindness for animals was apparent by her “pets” consisting of domestic cats and dogs and sometimes wild animals needing rehabilitation. She also was a member of Pamplin Chapter #58 of the Order of the Eastern Star for years.

She is survived by her children: Laura Slayton Mann (Melvin) of Forest, VA, Bonnie Slayton Trenum (Bud) of Warrenton, VA, James Slayton of Lynchburg, VA, Linda Slayton Jackson (Christopher) of Fayetteville, NC, a brother William Dickerson (Edna) of Pamplin, VA, nephew, Gary Dickerson also of Pamplin, a daughter in law Teresa Slayton of Farmville, 15 grandchildren: Melanie (Will), Melissa (Gary), Megan (Mike) Christiana (Dustin), Will (Basia), Nick, John, Evan (Lauren), Audrey (Daniel), Lindsey, Kaylie, Heather (JT), Matthew (Lisa), Chad (Lauryn), Erin and 14.5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a son, Danny Slayton.

The family would like to express a thank you to Runk & Pratt on Leesville Road in Lynchburg for the wonderful care given by the staff.

A celebration of life service was held on Sunday, August 26, at 3 p.m. in Spring Creek Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery.
