Policy over partisanship

Regarding Frank Ruff’s column “Audacity” appearing in the July 4, edition of The Farmville Herald: The sad status of broken families at the USA border due to poor policy implementation is cause for all of us to raise our concerns publicly. I do not choose, as State Senator Ruff does, to view this through the lens of political party. Some events in our lives rise above interest in the blame game, and we choose, rather, to focus on what right thing needs doing. Separating families runs counter to a conservative principle I hold dear and that is the sanctity of the family in our society. Families are foundational. Government should enact policy with this principle in mind. This is one of those sad times in our country which needs Republicans/ Democrats/ Independents to rise above petty partisanship. I still am hopeful our leaders will use their considerable influence to make these families whole, and further, develop a thoughtful immigration policy and implementation strategies.
