The Town of Farmville plans to reveal the final Recreation Master Plan during a community meeting Wednesday, 5:30 p.m. at the town office.
“Representatives from Land Planning & Design Associates (LPDA) will be presenting the final Farmville Recreation Master Plan to the public,” a notice from the town cited. “This is an excellent opportunity for residents to learn, engage and participate in this process.”
The process to develop a 10-year development plan for the town’s recreation was announced in February 2017.
The contract with LPDA totals $50,000, an earlier Herald report cited.
“The findings will include recommendations on parks, and playgrounds, facilities, programs and other aspects of the study,” the noticed cited. “The last community meeting on this study had excellent and diverse turnout from the community, including children,” the release cited.
The organization, throughout the past year, has gathered data to assess the area’s recreational needs and received input from citizens during past community meetings.
The town’s recreation budget totaled $253,486.28 in 2017.
“The firm that has been doing the study will be at the meeting to present the findings of the study,” Ward A Councilman Greg Cole, who serves as chairman of the parks and recreation committee of town council, said Monday. “This is just a public informational meeting where members of the community can ask questions. I would encourage anyone interested to attend this meeting.”
What comes next, Cole said, is to pursue improvements to facilities and potential development for new facilities.
“The next step in this process is to sit down with stakeholders in the community and discuss the study and begin to plan for future improvements to existing and possible new parks or facilities,” Cole said.
