The Health Center for Women and Families (HCWF) will have a booth at the Farmville farmers market to mark National Health Center Week. The event will take place Aug. 4 from 9 a.m. – noon, at the Farmville Community Marketplace, 213 North St., Farmville. The event is part of a national campaign during the week of Aug. 12-18 to raise awareness about the mission and accomplishments of America’s Health Centers and the dedicated staff who bring health care to the medically underserved. HCWF is part of Central Virginia Health Services (CVHS), a nonprofit community health center – Virginia’s first community health center. HCWF currently offers family medical and prenatal care, up to 32 weeks.

Community health centers like HCWF are community-based and patient-directed organizations that serve populations with limited access to health care because of geography, lack of insurance, poverty or other factors. Along with other health care safety net providers, the health center plays a key role in the community’s health. HCWF takes most insurance plans and offers an income-based discount for services for low-income families.
