The Church and Community Events calendar is published each Friday. Items must be submitted by 10 a.m. Monday for that Friday’s calendar. Events should be emailed to CommunityCalendar@FarmvilleHerald.com.

COMBINED WORKS, of Randy Akers and Paul John Elliott will be displayed at The Craddock-Terry Gallery. Free and open to the public Wednesday through Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.

JULY 21

BUTTERFLY AND POLLINATOR FESTIVAL, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historical State Park, Amelia.

MONTHLY CRUISE IN, 4-8 p.m. sponsored by The Heart of Virginia Classic Car Club in the parking lot of the old Schewel’s, next to Tractor Supply. Bring your classic car to show or come and admire them. Trophies will given to the top three people’s choice. The cruise ins are held monthly on the third Saturday through September.

JULY 22

GUEST PREACHER, 11 a.m. at Forest Baptist Church will be Dr. Rev. Samuel J. Williams for the church’s 145th Church Anniversary.

HOMECOMING, 3 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 3010 Sandy River Road, Farmville. The Rev. Irma Watson of Midway Baptist will be the guest speaker. Voices for Christ will render the music.

STRIKES AGAINST STROKES BOWLING, 2-4 p.m. at Main St. Lanes, Farmville, hosted by Centra Southside Community Hospital.

CHOIR FEST 2018, 4 p.m. at Spirit of Life Church of God In Christ, 308 South Virginia St., Farmville. Elder Novey W. Wiley, Sr. pastor, William E. Mobsy, Jr. District Superintendent and Geraldine A. Wiley District Missionary. All are welcome.

HOMECOMING, 11 a.m. at The Old Green Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Samuel Trent. Dinner will be served.

PUBLIC AWARENESS MEETING, 2 p.m. of the Cumberland Landfill Awareness Group of the Green Ridge Landfill Project and opposing its development at the Cumberland County Community Center, 11 Davenport Road, Cumberland. All are welcome.

MEMORIAL DAY PROGRAM, 3 p.m. of The Jackson Family at The White Oak Grove Baptist Church in Phenix. Guests will provide the music for the afternoon. Special guest is New Beginnings of Chase City. All proceeds will go to the building fund. This year’s program is a special tribute to Deacon Willard Jackson, John Henry Haskins and Quashay Banks and Dorothy Haskins Smith. Everyone welcome.

JULY 22-27

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL, 11 a.m. at Tearwallet Baptist Church. The Rev. Carrington will deliver the morning message. Lunch will be served following the service. Revival Services will begin in the afternoon at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Sherri Thomas, Pastor of the New Hope Baptist Church, Cartersville rendering the message accompanied by her choir, ushers and congregation. Revival worship services will begin each evening at 8 p.m. following Prayer and praise service at 7:30 p.m.

HOMECOMING AND REVIVAL, 11 a.m. at The High Bridge Baptist Church. Pastors’ Reginald and Eva Hurt will facilitate the Dual Sermon. At 2:30 p.m., the Rev. Edward Harrington of Greater Hayes Grove Baptist Church, South Hill will speak. Revival begins on Monday with prayer and praise at 7:30 p.m. and worship service at 8 p.m. There will be different preachers and choirs each night.

HOMECOMING AND REVIVAL, 11 a.m. at Pilgrim Baptist Church. Lunch will follow the morning service preached by the Rev. Marvin Oliver. Guest minister for the afternoon at 3 p.m. will be the Rev. Kevin Jones, Pastor of Liberty Baptist, Amelia. Prayer and praise services nightly at 7:30 p.m. followed by worship services. There will be different speakers each night. All are welcome.

JULY 23-26

LONGWOOD BASEBALL YOUTH CAMP, 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. for boys and girls between the ages of 6-12 at the baseball stadium on campus (Buddy Bolding Stadium) and will feature instruction for all ages in hitting, fielding and pitching. To register contact Evan Wells at wellsee@longwood.edu.

JULY 23-27

REVIVAL SERVICES, 7:30 p.m. nightly at Calvary Baptist Church, 3010 Sandy River Road, Farmville. There will be different revivalists for the week. Music will be rendered by a guest choir each night. All are welcome.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL, 6-8 p.m. at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, 2272 Evansmill Road, Dillwyn. Free. Everyone welcome.

REVIVAL SERVICES, at The Old Green Creek Baptist Church. Revivalist for the week will be Pastor Patrick Bland of Mt. Pero Baptist, Powhatan with a visiting choir each night.

JULY 25-27

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL, 6-8 p.m. at Safe Haven Christian Ministries, 5150 Three Sixty Highway, Meherrin. Theme: Conquering The Giant. Open to all children and adults. Bible Classes, crafts, games, music and snacks. Friday night cookout. Come out and enjoy this Christian experience and fellowship.

JULY 26-28

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL, 6-8 p.m. at Guinea Presbyterian Church. On Saturday the time will be 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. with lunch provided. This year’s theme is “Paul’s Underground Church.” Closing ceremonies will take place Sunday, July 29, at 11:15 a.m. during service.

JULY 27

FINDING YOUR ROOTS, 6-8 p.m. at Longwood University Greenwood Library. This workshop will allow participants to get hands-on experience using the library’s online genealogy databases. Participants may bring 10 to 15 family photos or documents to use scanners for digital preservation. Snacks and drinks will be provided. JULY 28-AUGUST 25

OPEN TRAIL NIGHTS, 9-11 p.m. at High Bridge Trail State Park between Farmville and River Road. The public is welcome to walk or ride the trail under the light of the full moon. The closest access to High Bridge is from the Camp Paradise parking area in Prince Edward County.

JULY 29

5TH SUNDAY MUSICAL SERVICE, 11 a.m. by the Heritage Bluegrass Band at Union Grove Baptist Church, 2006 County Line Road., Keysville. Lunch will follow. All are welcome.

CONCERT, 7 p.m. featuring “Prodigal Son” at Rough Creek Presbyterian Church. Light refreshments following the concert. All are welcome to attend. The church is located 3 miles north of Phenix on highway 727.

FAMILY AND FRIENDS DAY, 11 a.m. at Triumph Baptist Church, Darlington Heights Road. The Rev. James W. Morris, pastor, will preach and the church choir will sing. A car and motorcycle show and a picnic lunch will follow the service. Casual dress. Everyone is welcome.

JULY 29-AUGUST 2

JOINT VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL, 6:30-8:30 p.m. of Fitzgerald Memorial Baptist Church and Payne Memorial United Methodist Church. Classes or volunteer work for ages 2-18. Closing program and picnic  Friday, at 6:30 p.m. Family and friends are welcome. Hero Central will be the theme. DROP OFF AND PICK UP, 4-4:30 p.m. for the Riverside Café All Members Show. Any member not currently exhibiting at Riverside Cafe that would like to display one piece, or members that would like to change a piece should contact Rick Thomas.

KERSHAW TRAIL CLEANUP, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historical State Park. Assist park personnel in removing debris from timbering. Volunteers are welcome to come and leave at any time during the event.

MEMORIAL TRIBUTE CELEBRATION, 3 p.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 16 Horsepen Road, Farmville, in memory of the late Rev. Lee Watkins, Jr. The Springfield Travelers will be in concert. The Rev. Arlene Marble will lead the worship experience. Come and share with us his legacy.

AUGUST 5-10

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL, 10 a.m. at Cedar Baptist Church, 3932 Bell Road, Dillwyn. Worship service at 11 a.m. with lunch following. Song service featuring Chris Lewis at 1:30 p.m. Evangelist Roger Roller will be conducting revival services Monday-Friday. Services will begin each night at 7 p.m. Special music each night.

AUGUST 7

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT, sponsored by The Town of Farmville. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community.

AUGUST 8

HOMECOMING AND REVIVAL, 11 a.m. at Rocky Mount Baptist Church, 919 Stoney Point Road. Cumberland. Pastor, the Rev. Larry E. Smith will deliver the morning message. A fellowship dinner will follow. Minister, Christopher Foster, Associate Minister of Greater Galilee Baptist Church, Lawton, Oklahoma will bring forth the word for the afternoon service at 3 p.m. Revival service will be held Aug. 13 – 17 nightly with prayer and praise starting at 7:30 p.m. and worship at 8 p.m. Revivalist for the week will be the Rev. Kevin Bolden Pastor of Oak Union Baptist Church in Charlottesville.

AUGUST 12-15

HOMECOMING AND REVIVAL, 11 a.m. at Sharon Baptist Church in Cumberland beginning Sunday followed by a fellowship dinner. There will be no afternoon service. The guest preacher for Monday through Wednesday will be the Rev. Gary Harmon, Pastor of Level Run Baptist Church, Hurt. Prayer and praise service will begin at 7 p.m. followed by worship service at 7:30 p.m.

AUGUST 19

HOMECOMING, 11 a.m. at Midway Baptist Church, 837 Guinea Road, Farmville. There will be no afternoon service.

AUGUST 20-24

REVIVAL SERVICES, 7:30 p.m. nightly at Midway Baptist Church, 837 Guinea Road, Farmville. There will be different ministers, along with their choir, each night. All are welcome.
