Baseball and summertime

Concord Baptist Church held Vacation Bible School from June 24-28. Over 30 young people attended to learn more about Jesus – past and future. The children participated in a daily contest with prizes awarded to the winners, along with artistic craft projects and outdoor games and recreation. Every child who attended received a certificate. The week wrapped up with a grilled hot dog dinner and ice cream. Concord Baptist Church is located at 12053 Francisco Road at Sheppards in Buckingham. Join them for Sunday school each week at 10 a.m. and worship services at 11 a.m.

Spend time with fun water activities from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., sponsored by the Buckingham Extension Office. For ages 5-13. Ages 5-8 are scheduled for July 30, and ages 9-13 are set for July 31. Pack a lunch. For more information call (434) 969-4261.

Sprouse’s Corner Ranch LLC is set to have its Advanced Horsemanship Camp July 23-27 from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. This camp is offered for advanced riders, ages 7-17, who have developed an independent seat at walk, trot and canter. Riders will practice more advanced skills in dressage, jumping, saddle seat riding, and western games such as barrel racing and pole bending. For more information and class cost call (434) 983-8181. Year-round yoga classes are offered through the Buckingham County Parks and Recreation Department. Classes are held each Wednesday, from 9:30-11:15 a.m. at the Buckingham Agricultural Building. The instructor is Hope Mell. Participants will need a yoga mat, large towel or blanket. This class reduces stress and increases health. Yoga will focus on posture, relaxation, breath control and mental concentration. Yoga improves flexibility, strength and balance. Please wear loose-fitting clothing that does not restrict movement. Big League Drams baseball instruction provides individual instruction for baseball enthusiasts including individual instruction, pitching, hitting, fielding fundamentals and video analysis. Instruction is by appointment with one-hour private lesson. Sibling discounts are offered. Call Tim Hoage at (843) 340-5246 for information or appointment. Tim Hoage has over 30 years of coaching experience, received the “Ripken Experience” instructor notation, played four years college baseball, is a valley league all-star pitcher and pitched two seasons professionally. This program is sponsored by the Buckingham County Parks and Recreation Department.

Get ready for the fair by spending time in various activities to prepare exhibits for the Five County Fair. On July 23, ages 5-8 will meet at the Buckingham Extension Office from 8 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. to create entries for the fair. On July 24, ages 9-13 will have a day to do the same.
