Heart of Virginia Christmas Mother organization changes name

Board members of the Heart of Virginia Christmas Mother program have announced that they are currently in the process of legally changing the name of the nonprofit organization to Prince Edward Christmas Mother. After two years of serving the community with the current name, board members decided that it was necessary to clarify their service area and mission with a name change.

“For the last two years, we have helped families in surrounding counties; other counties are forming their own programs and we want to clarify our mission and intent to serve families who live in Prince Edward County,” stated Lauren Showalter, 2018 board president.

The nonprofit organization was founded in 2016 and since then has raised over $50,000 to provide Christmas for over 500 children in the community.

Showalter also stated that the organization’s logo has been updated to reflect the new name change. The organization will hold a volunteer appreciation event June 5 at 5:30 p.m. at the Robert Russa Moton Museum. Past volunteers and those interested in volunteering this year are invited to attend. The event will also serve as an opportunity to meet this year’s board members and to meet the 2018 Prince Edward Christmas Mother, who will be announced next week.
