An early end for Majors

The Prince Edward-Farmville Youth Association (PEFYA) Majors All-Star team came up short Saturday for the second time in the Dixie Youth Baseball Major League All-Star District 5 Tournament, bringing the squad’s summer run to an early end.

The PEFYA boys started strong Friday in Victoria when they burst out to a 9-0 lead over the Crewe-Burkeville All-Stars in the first two innings. But Prince Edward-Farmville was not able to contain Crewe-Burkeville’s offense in the final two innings and ended up falling 15-11.

Looking to bounce back Saturday, PEFYA dug its way out of a 5-0 deficit against the Blackstone All-Stars to tie the game 5-5 in the fifth inning. But Blackstone put up three unanswered runs in the sixth and final inning to win 8-5 and eliminate Prince Edward-Farmville.

“This was a good game,” PEFYA Manager Bob Jenkins said. “The boys played hard. Andreas Noraas and Noah Boehmer pitched a great game. We did a good job, it’s just that one inning, we had too many errors — that’s where they stepped up above us.”

On the mound, Boehmer threw five strikeouts and gave up only three runs in three innings.

On offense, Jack Jones went 2-for-2, Walker Jenkins went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Clevante Watkins went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Boehmer went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and J.J. Luhn went 1-for-2 with an RBI.

“These boys have been playing ball all these years together, so just a great bunch of kids,” Jenkins said. “… I’m going to miss them.”
