Stepko named assistant principal

Pamela Stepko was named the new assistant principal for Cumberland County Elementary School (CCES) at the May 14 meeting of the Cumberland School Board. Stepko, who currently teaches third grade math at CCES, will assume the position on July 1.

Stepko has a Bachelor of Science degree from Longwood University and a Master of Science degree in educational leadership, also from Longwood University. She completed her student teaching at CCES prior to accepting a teaching position at Nottoway Public Schools, where she was the lead teacher for Blackstone Primary School. She also served her administrative internship at CCES. Stepko has experience in curriculum development and alignment, facilitating professional development opportunities, and designing assessments. She was the recipient of the 2016 Impact Award for Region 8, given by the Virginia Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (VASCD). This award is presented each year at the VASCD Annual Conference to one educator for each region. The winner must exemplify excellence in teaching, learning and leadership.

Kathryn Garrett, the current CCES assistant principal, has accepted a new position of Career Development Specialist.
