Benefit fish fry and concert

The Cumberland County Board of Supervisors monthly meeting is held every second Tuesday, unless otherwise announced, at 7 p.m. in the Cumberland County Circuit Courtroom.

There will be a Gospel Sing, bake sale and concessions to benefit the Cumberland County Volunteer Fire Department on Saturday, May 12, at 6 p.m. with doors to open at 5 p.m. in the Cumberland County Elementary School Cafetorium located at 60 School Road, Cumberland.

Southern Gospel Music at its best to feature “Smokey Wilson” of Concord and “Mike Yoder and The Oak Hill Quartet” of Cumberland. No admission charge but a love offering will be received. Happy birthday wishes are sent out this week to the following people. Carol Luke of Farmville on Saturday, Ginger Guthrie of Cumberland and Claire Landis of Farmville both celebrating birthdays on Monday, Cheyenne Marion of Mineral and Blake Waycaster both celebrating birthdays on May 10.

A speedy recovery is sent out to all those who are sick and shut-in.

Shiloh New Covenant Church located about 5 miles east of Cumberland Courthouse at 665 Anderson Highway partnering with Central Virginia FeedMore Program will be operating The Shiloh New Covenant Commodity Supplemental Food Program seniors age 60 years and older.

Food will be distributed on Tuesday, May 9, from 1 -3 p.m. and they will be accepting applications for new clients, for all seniors 60 and older who are a Cumberland county resident and income qualify. You must bring your photo ID and proof of your monthly income. Also when you become qualified for this food program, you will be contacted by phone from the food bank director when you can start your pick up for the food. Our sympathy is also extended to the Walter Stimpson family of Farmville who went home to be with the Lord last week.

The Buckingham County Christian Fellowship Association, a nonprofit organization, will be hosting their regular monthly meeting on Monday, at 5 p.m. at Brown’s Chapel UMC located at U.S. Route 15 North of Dillwyn on State Route 617 (Gravel Hill Road). All members are asked to bring a covered dish for the meal. Following will be the May program featuring Gospel Music Soloist Nancy Fairchild of New Canton. Buckingham Baptist Church Gold Hill will be sponsoring a youth fundraiser on Saturday, May 12, from noon-3 p.m. at advance Auto Parts in Dillwyn. There will be a bake sale, flowers for sale for Mother’s Day and a car wash for donations. Thanks in advance for your support.

Our sympathy is extended to the Patsy Davis family of Dillwyn and the Arbrey M. Herndon family of New Canton whom both went home to be with the Lord last week. They both will be greatly missed by all. Our earthly loss has now become Heaven’s gain.

Cedar Baptist Church located at 3932 Bell Road would like to welcome everyone to their spring Revival beginning Monday through Friday with the Rev. Jerry Gray from Iva, South Carolina as their guest speaker. Services will begin each night at 7 p.m.

Spreading God’s Gifts Inc. a nonprofit organization serving Buckingham and surrounding counties in helping people in their hour of need will be hosting a benefit fish fry and concert on Saturday, 5 p.m. at Mulberry Grove Baptist Church located at 1095 Mulberry, Buckingham. Dinner to include fried fish, coleslaw, baked beans, dessert and beverage, all for a donation. You may eat in or takeout. Fitzgerald Memorial Baptist Church located at 14 Fitzgerald Road, Cumberland, would like to welcome everyone on Sunday, at 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. for our 90th Anniversary / Birthday Celebration.
