A brush fire that erupted between the 1400 and 1500 blocks of South Main Street on Tuesday afternoon was extinguished, Farmville Fire Chief Dean Farmer confirmed.

The brush fire, which started in a wooded area between AutoZone, located at 1410 S. Main St., and TitleMax Title Loan, located at 1506 S. Main St., was reported at 2:46 p.m., Farmer said.

“(When) we arrived, there was a small fire at the wood line,” Farmer said, mentioning crews from the Farmville Fire Department that responded.

He noted that crews were on scene within six minutes of the report and that the fire was extinguished within eight minutes of the report.

Farmer said Wednesday morning a cause of the fire had not been determined.

“No investigation at this time,” Farmer said. “The cause is thought to be accidential.”

Haley Francis, who lives at the home located between the AutoZone and TitleMax buildings, said she did not see the fire and was alerted to the incident when someone knocked on her door. Francis said she was asked to leave the house, as it was in close proximity to the fire.

“Thankfully it was caught pretty quickly,” Francis said.
