On Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. the Longwood University Jazz Ensemble will present a concert in Jarman Auditorium on the LU campus. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend. Doors will open at 7 p.m.
The LU Jazz Ensemble, in its 25th year under the direction of Dr. Charles Kinzer, will perform music from the libraries of Maynard Ferguson, Charles Mingus, Artie Shaw and Dave Brubeck, among others.
Two students will be spotlighted: Kirsten Vis, a senior Music Education major, will perform Artie Shaw’s famous clarinet solo on “Begin the Beguine,” and Cody Leonard, a senior music performance major, will perform a ballad on saxophone entitled “Lifelong Friends.”
Other student soloists with the Jazz Ensemble include Cory Anderson, a senior trumpeter from Culpeper; Joshua Golub, a junior saxophonist from Williamsburg; and Nate Irving, a senior drummer from Chesterfield.
