Buckingham’s boys team has struggled more to find wins this season, but it orchestrated a remarkable one Monday evening when it defeated host Randolph-Henry 75-70.

The Statesmen were recently ranked as the No. 8 Virginia High School League (VHSL) Class 2 team in the state by Virginia Preps and were recently the top team in the James River District.

The Knights played without their leading scorer, sophomore forward Jalen Chambers, who is sidelined due to injury. Stepping up was freshman Amari Toney, who scored a game- and career-high 27 points. He made seven three-pointers.

The Knights entered their home game against Prince Edward on Wednesday with a 6-12 overall record.
