John Leon Clark

John Leon Clark, professionally known to many as AUBU, was born on February 19, 1934 in Cumberland County, Virginia, to the late John R. Clark and Gertrude Simms Clark. He slipped quietly and peacefully from our earthly presence on Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2018.

He received his education in the Cumberland County Public School System. John later served his county as a member of the United States Air Force. He was an award winning painter, pianist, composer, and comedian. In 1998 he authored a book entitled, “The Sweetman Cometh”, produced by PPC Books, Westport, Connecticut.

John discovered his gift for making people laugh through his one man show entitled “Sweetman”. He made his on stage debut at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York, in 1986. His voice could also be heard on WBlS-FM Radio, as “Sweetman The Newsman-Keeping You Abreast of the Mess”, and performed in numerous nightclubs and comedy venues.

John loved the lord, trusting and confidently taking refuge in Him. He was predeceased by his parents and sisters Alice Clark Blagmon and Delores Clark. He leaves to cherish his memory, a devoted niece, Mary Alice D. Jackson (Willie, Ill), of Farmville, VA, a nephew, Kevin Blagmon (Peggy) and brother-in-law, Staples Blagmon, of Mt. Vernon, NY, Frances R. Clements and William Randy” Randolph, cousins, of Farmville, VA, and a host of grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins and friends.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 11 a.m., on Feb. 24, 2018, at the Chapel of the Bland Reid Funeral Home, Farmville, Virginia.
