Central Virginia Arts will hold a lecture — Armchair Adventures: Henri Rousseau and his fantastic Landscapes with lecturer Jeffrey Allison on Sunday, Feb. 4 at 3 p.m. — at the Atkinson Museum at Hampden Sydney College.
“Join Jeffrey Allison, Paul Mellon collection educator and manager, statewide programs and exhibitions at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, as he explores the unique life and work of the French artist, Henri Rousseau,” officials said in a press release. “The essentially self-taught painter created cityscapes and portraits as well as dream-like exotic jungle scenes without stepping out of the city.”
According to the release, during his lifetime his work was ridiculed by critics, but now is considered one of the masters his time. All lectures are free and open to the public.
