Gas prices on the rise

Average retail gasoline prices in Virginia have risen 4.6 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.3 per gallon Jan. 1, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 4,081 gas outlets in Virginia.

“This compares with the national average that has increased 3.9 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.48/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com,” officials said in a Jan. 2 press release. “Including the change in gas prices in Virginia during the past week, prices yesterday were 9.9 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and are 0.4 cents per gallon higher than a month ago.”

According to the Jan. 2 release, the national average has increased 1.3 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 13.6 cents per gallon higher than this day one year ago.
